BuyTrail Help Center
Set up the product-page block, understand available purchase history, and resolve common display or synchronization questions.
Setup guide
- Open BuyTrail in Shopify admin. The first app open creates the secure shop session and queues the initial sync of order history Shopify currently makes available to the app.
- Check the index status. If no synchronization is active, select Sync available order history and wait until the latest job is complete.
- Add the app block. Select Add block to product page, place the BuyTrail block in the desired product template, and save the theme.
- Customize the display. Use the theme editor to set the text, colors, spacing, border, date format, and whether selected options appear.
- Verify with a customer account. Sign in on the storefront as a customer with an available matching order and open a product from that order.
Troubleshooting
The block does not appear on a product page
- Confirm the BuyTrail app block is added to the active product template.
- Confirm the theme change was saved and published to the expected theme.
- Test while signed in as a customer whose available order history contains that product. Guests and customers without a match see no purchase banner.
Purchase information is missing or incomplete
- Open BuyTrail and confirm the index is idle and the last sync job completed without an error.
- Select Sync available order history if a manual refresh is needed.
- Confirm the customer used the same Shopify customer account that is attached to the order.
- Orders outside the history currently exposed by Shopify cannot be backfilled unless the app has Shopify's separate older-order access approval.
The order link does not open
- Confirm the customer is still signed in to the storefront.
- Confirm the order remains available in that customer's Shopify account.
- Retry from the product page. The order reference is verified for the signed-in customer before the account link is returned.
Frequently asked questions
Who can see purchase history?
Only a signed-in customer can receive a result, and each lookup is restricted to records associated with that customer's Shopify ID. Guests and other customers receive no purchase details.
What appears on the product page?
Depending on the merchant's theme settings, the block can show how many orders contained the product, the latest purchase date, the selected option values or variant, a selling-plan name, and a link to the matching order in the customer account.
How much order history is available?
Shopify normally gives an app with the standard order scope access to the previous 60 days of orders, plus order events received after installation. Older history requires Shopify's separate approval and a new merchant authorization for the additional scope.
Do canceled, refunded, or unfulfilled orders count?
Yes. BuyTrail records the original ordered product as purchase history regardless of its later fulfillment, cancellation, refund, void, or test-order state. It describes order history rather than a successful-fulfillment status.
Does BuyTrail store customer contact or payment data?
No. The purchase index does not request or store storefront customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, or payment information. See the privacy policy for the complete data description.
What happens when the app is uninstalled?
BuyTrail deletes the shop's sessions, purchase index, sync jobs, and privacy-request records after receiving Shopify's uninstall or shop-redaction notice. One-way deletion markers may remain to stop delayed jobs from recreating deleted data.
